Overview
Virtual Disaster Recovery Solution (VDRS) is an option available to clients. VDRS involves the use of VMWare to provide an instant failover environment for clients. Most customers will not require this as any failure is likely to involve an isolated server, and recovery can take place using the optional local storage facility on the same site. Where a major disaster occurs such as complete loss of a customer premises such as due to fire / flood then the VDRS should be considered
Traditionally Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery have always been separated between the business and IT department. It has long been recognised that this ‘divide’ creates more problems than it solves, after all most businesses could not continue to operate successfully if their IT services were unavailable for a period of time.
Therefore our virtual disaster recovery solution solution complements the Online Backup Solution, ensuring minimum downtime and absolute control when disaster strikes. The solution is clear and concise, focusing on all the key activities required to recover your critical IT services.

How the Solution Works
In the event of a disaster there are a number of key processes taken to recover a customer’s I.T. infrastructure. The following steps are always adhered to for customers with single or multiple server / site environments. The standard protocols are:
- Encrypted data is backed up into Lakestyle’s primary vault in Manchester, always available for restore
- In the event of disaster being invoked Lakestyle will recover the DS-Client into a dedicated virtual environment within the primary data center
- Once recovered Lakestyle will restore all required servers into the secure VMware environment
- Lakestyle will then make this network available via a secure VPN or preferred method of connection
Benefits
There are multiple benefits to the managed Virtual DR solution. Some of these include:
- Servers are always available for restore

- Ability to connect from multiple locations
- Data stored offsite and fully replicated between 2 geographically separate data centers
- Unlimited hosting after DR implementation
- Supported migration back to customer environment
- No invocation costs
